Wayne Brumm - Director / Founder / Management consultant

Wayne Brumm is the director and joint partner of the Pure Tennis Academy & owner of the Ferny Hills Tennis Centre. He has been involved in playing and coaching tennis for over 30 years and has developed numerous junior players to a state junior ranking.

Wayne is an advanced level 2 Club Professional with Tennis Australia and has also achieved previous advanced coaching qualifications with Tennis Coaches Association and Australian Tennis Professional Coaches Association. He has taught the game at all levels and mentored over a dozen junior players through to achieving their own coaching qualifications in past years. Wayne has extensive experience in setting up and managing tennis sites and operations in various locations. Wayne has also co-ordinated many overseas tennis tours and events with great success. He is the current owner of the award winning Ferny Hills Tennis centre which he has operated for the last 10 years.

Wayne Brumm brings a wealth of tennis coaching and centre management experience to the Pure Tennis Academy at the world class facilities at Griffith University, Mount Gravatt.

Kirsten Elliott- Centre Supervisor & Pro Shop Manager

Kirsten looks after all our bookings & fixtures administration at Ferny Hills Tennis Centre.  Kirsten has been at Ferny for over 2 years and makes it her job to know just about everything & everyone!   Kirsten has a Certificate III in fitness and Business Administration and has previously worked as a fitness instructor and receptionist at a local gym.  Kirsten is a competent tennis player and grew up competing in fixtures and tournaments from an early age.  Kirsten has a great understanding of tennis and the progression path involved in the sport and will guide your child into the right program for them.

Saul McLeod - Ferny Hills Tennis Centre Head Coach

Saul joins the team here at Pure Tennis Academy as Ferny Hills Tennis Centre’s Head Coach.  With a vast array of experience and a keen eye for talent, Saul started playing at the age 8 of and moving up through the junior ranks rapidly, competing in a number of National events around the country.  Saul spent 4 years (2001-2005) in Europe competing in money tournaments and club tennis in Italy, playing under numerous academies including a long stint at Match Ball Bra where he trained alongside and served as a hitting partner some of the world’s top juniors including Andrey Golubev (rank 77), Andreas Seppi (rank 66) amongst others.

Playing Profile

• Held a Level 1.7 playing rating (British Requirement to compete in Girobank tour)
• Won numerous money tournaments in Italy
• Number 2 player for Tennis Club Bra (Italy)
• Coached under Massimo Puci (2001-2005) Coach of Andrey Golubev Ranked #77, and numerous WTA tour women.

• Winner of the Pacific Game in 2002
• Number one player in New Caledonia in 2002
• French University Team Championship runner up 2003
• Member of the France University Institute (top 20 university players in France,2003 & 2004)
• Represented New Caledonia internationally from 1998 to 2008
• Practice partner for Gill Simon, Paul Henry Mathieu

Michael Barr – Level 2 Club Professional & Racquet Technician

Michael is our full time resident Racket Technician and a level 2 Club Tennis Professional. He has been playing at a competitive tournament level and has been part of the Ferny Hills Tennis Centre right through his junior years.   Michael’s is involved in many areas of the business including coaching, fixtures, administration, maintenance, events, restrings & equipment.  Michael understands the comprehensive string and racket variety to suit all levels of players. For any racket or restring advice, Michael will be happy to recommend the right blend for you and your racket for optimal playability.

Mary Jane O’Connor – Mini Tennis Red Co-ordinator

MJ has been coaching 5 – 7yr olds for over 4 years and is the Mini Tennis Red Coordinator.  MJ and her peers have proven results and she has a great rapport with the kids! MJ’s passion is working with kids and is studying primary school teaching at university. Her organizational and time management skills are exceptional and the Mini Tennis Red program continues to go from strength to strength as a result.  MJ has mentored many trainee coaches through their Mini Tennis Red training & has been part of the Ferny Hills Tennis Centre family for her entire tennis life!

Daniel Teys – Level 1 Development Tennis Professional

Daniel is a competitive tournament and super league player at the Ferny Hills Tennis Centre. He is currently trains in the High Performance squad and plays competitively accross Brisbane in the top super league divisions. Daniel has completed his Level 1 Tennis Qualification and can be found on the the Mini Tennis coaching court as well as supervising & encouraging our Hotshot fixture kids.  Daniel is a responsible, reliable and much loved member of the team. He is a keen observer and applies his own knowledge of the game into his coaching.  Daniel has been with Ferny Hills Tennis Centre for all of his tennis life too!

Therese Williams - Teeny Tennis & Mini Tennis Red Coach

Therese has been a part of the Ferny Hills Tennis Centre team for many years with 3 children who have all gone through the Fenry Hills Tennis Centre coaching and fixtures programs. Therese heads up the Teeny Tennis program for 3 – 4yr olds and is very gentle and kind with the little ones.

Trainee Tennis Professionals – Mini Tennis Red

Ashleigh Teys & Tony Berger are our trainee tennis professionals.  Both Ash & Tony go to Ferny Grove State High School & participate in our High Performance Program.  Both Ash & Tony are being mentored & trained by MJ and are developing into caring and motivating coaches.  They both have a great rapport with the little ones & their peers!
